Progress At Last!

Hello. Thank You so much for all your kind comments. It feels like such a long time since I have been here. I will do my best to pop round everyone and catch up. I am getting there slowly but surely. Had some test results back, The best one, ruling out anything sinister which is amazing. I have lost a good bit of weight due to the water tablets I am on, making every day life so much easier.

I had to giggle when my doctor phoned me at teatime on Friday to give me my results of yet another test, when I was on the bus!!! I got some odd looks. He is still very concerned that my thyroid is not behaving and thinks this could be what's causing my bad boy liver to be so swollen. I've to go back in 2 weeks for more blood tests and to up my dose again!! If it doesn't sort it, I will get more advanced tests and be referred to a specialist.

I'm not worried anymore. I've accepted that, what will be, will be and that's that. There are far too many people worse of than me. Now enough of the doom and gloom, lol, onto a more shocking, sweeping statement, I hope you are all seated for this......I went to Rosebud's birthday party last night (Happy Birthday Rosebud) and never touched a drop of alcohol!!!!. lol. I have a mental picture of everybody reading this, reaching for a chair! lol.

Nobody has told me that I have to avoid it, but I have followed my gut instinct since all this happened and I haven't touched a drop.  What an eye opener last night watching everybody!!! I didn't realise so many people swayed as much while under the influence. I found myself doing it with them!

I was a bit like a fish out of water for a while and so many people tried to persuade me to have just "one" but I stood my ground. I want my health back more than anything. I don't want to see another pineapple, lemonade and ice for a while though! lol.

I loved the feeling of getting up this morning and not having a hangover! No booze? No ciggies? At this rate, I will be packing my case to head off to visit the Sister's Of St Francis!! lol. Take Care, Back Soon. xx

I'm on quite a bit of medication too and should not really have alcohol.  I had a glass and a half of wine before my tea last night, as I waited for it to cook, and it went straight to my head!  I was in bed asleep by eight o'clock!  Lol!
I haven't drunk alcohol for a very long time and my body just couldn't process it.  Its times like these when you realise what a drug it can be.  Mind you it was a pleasant feeling and a super bottle wine...lol!
Glad your test results ruled out sinister problems.  Your doctor is on the ball with you ...isn't he?  Well done him to keep investigating.
I have my oncology surgeon to see on Tuesday this week for my six monthly check up. I have faith that all will be well.
Stress is the killer...its better to be accepting of 'what will be will be' and deal with it if it happens and only then.
That's the right frame of mind to be in.  Well done you!
Hope you enjoy the rest of the day.
Hugs

Sounds like you're not doing too bad at the minute.
I think it does help to have a positive attitude, if you can.  Are you sure you didn't have just an itsy bitsy drink.???  No.???  Well good on ya.!!
Take care my friend.

Glad you had another good report!  I stopped drinking 18 years ago when I was pregnant with my son.  Because like you said, I found getting up without a hangover on Saturday was wonderful!  Being around others who are drinking when you aren't can range from funny to ludicrus to sad and to disgusting. -  Barbara

good to hear from you, was getting a big worried; glad things are progressing and the results are looking good so far

I gave up alcohol 20 days ago and lost weight and feel healthier (I had 1-2 glasses of wine most nights); it does play havoc on your liver; I'm surprised the doctor didn't ask if you drank and advised you not to

hope you continue to feel better each and ever day

Wonderful news on the tests so far, I am happy for you.  I understand exactly what you are saying about not drinking.  I quit about 11 years ago and believe me...once I saw how my friends behaved and wondered if I was acting the same way...well I was happy I wasn't drinking anymore. I could never be a social drinker, when I drank I ended up drunk or worse not remembering anything the next day.  It takes some getting used to and there are still times I long to just "tie one on" but I haven't.  Yes, you are indeed ready to reside at St. Francis...LOL

Well done for not having a drink :o)  I don't drink that much ~ I'm certainly not one for having hangovers etc.  I know my limits and stick to them but it's so much fun watching others going over the limit and watching their inhibitions slip!!  Glad the test results are nothing sinister xx

I used to go to the bars with Doc where he was playing a gig with his band....This wasn't long after I had quit drinking and I was amazed at how people truly act after a few hours of drinking....I don't judge as I used to be one of them, but it's refreshing to be the one who stands out in a crowd on your principles....I'm proud of you hon, that took a lot of courage. I don't drink because I am on too many medications that they would interfere with.  And I also have bipolar disorder, and it's recommended that you avoid alcohol with that because you are more likely to become addicted.  That said, good deal on avoiding the drinking!  I really don't think drinking is a good idea for anyone, although many people indulge safely.  and I know what they say about red wine being good for your heart, in moderation.

I'm glad your test results so far haven't yielded anything ugly.  It sounds very serious to have a swollen liver, so I hope they can isolate the cause and do something about it!
